Under his leadership, the SLCT continued its work protecting about 550 acres across 50 preserves in Stamford, helping ensure the land remains protected and accessible for future generations.

The organization said Stone was widely known for his enthusiasm, optimism and ability to encourage those around him, with many who worked alongside him recalling the impact of his passion for conservation and community engagement.

The SLCT said it will continue its mission of preserving open space in the spirit of stewardship that defined Stone’s leadership.
