Stamford Man Fatally Stabbed on Downtown Corner

Police are looking for witnesses to the attack that took place in front of McDonald's on Broad Street; This is first homicide of 2015.

A 52-year-old Stamford man became Stamford’s first murder victim of 2015 when he died early Thursday after he was stabbed several times at a busy downtown intersection.

According to police, the victim was found collapsed at the corner of Broad and Bedford streets about 8:17 p.m. Wednesday by a Stamford Emergency Medical Service crew who was in the area for an unrelated call.

“They started to treat the male and observed a stab wound to his chest. He was transported to Stamford (Hospital) where he underwent emergency surgery. After several hours of surgery he succumbed to his injuries“ at 1:07 a.m. Thursday, police said in a statement.

Police said a group of three to five men and woman assaulted Antonio Muralles with a stick in front of McDonalds at 25 Bedford St. “At some point one of the males pulled out a knife and stabbed Muralles several times in the arms and torso. The group took off running in different directions,” police said.

Police added, “This area was very heavily travelled and well lit at this time and we believe there were several witnesses to this incident. Investigators will be recovering video to assist us in this investigation. We ask that if anyone has information or witnessed this senseless act to please call the Stamford Police Detective Bureau at 203-944-4417. All calls will be kept confidential.”

Police said an autopsy will be performed Thursday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
