Stamford Nail Salons Hit with Stop Work Order by CT Labor Department

The labor department investigated complaints about health and employment practices earlier this month, resulting in the penalties.

Five Stamford nail salons have been hit with stop work orders by the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Wage and Workplace Standards Division that investigated complaints of questionable health and employment practices.

According to State Labor Commissioner Sharon M. Palmer, “As a result of these investigations the wage division recovered more than $47,350 in owed wages for the employees – primarily for required minimum wage payments – and expects to collect additional money for workers.

An additional $79,000 in civil penalties was levied and collected for under reporting payroll and paying employees in cash and $21,300 for wage and hour violations.

Department personnel made unannounced visits to 25 salons around the state on Aug. 3, and those resulted in Stop Work orders being placed on 23 establishments, including five in Stamford.
