Stamford Native Graduates From Connecticut State Police Academy

The 131st Training Troop graduated from the Connecticut State Police Academy on Thursday.

STAMFORD, CT — The Connecticut State Police on Thursday graduated 53 new State Troopers, and among them was a Stamford native.

Carmen Delgado will be assigned to Troop G in Bridgeport, according to a news release from the CSP.

The new troopers were sworn-in by Col. Stavros Mellekas, commander of the CSP. Gov. Ned Lamont and Lt. Gov Susan Bysiewicz also addressed the graduates.

The 131st Training Troop entered the Connecticut State Police Training Academy on Sept. 10, 2021, with classes starting remotely due to COVID-19, a news release from the CSP said. On Oct. 10, 2021, the class began the residential portion of the academy, Monday through Friday, and completed the remaining 24 weeks of training.

In total, a news release from the CSP said, the class completed 28 weeks and approximately 1,400 hours of training both online and in person. In addition to classwork, the recruits spent many hours on physical conditioning, driving, firearms training, active shooter response, experiential training and other specialized areas of police work.

The 53 members of the class includes 38 men and 15 women, all with diverse backgrounds in law enforcement and first responder positions.

Of the 53 new State Troopers, 15 have military experience, 11 have prior law enforcement experience, 24 hold a bachelor's degree and four have advanced degrees.

According to the CSP, the youngest member of the graduating class is 21, and the oldest is 47.
