Stamford A and P Store to Be Sold

It looks like there’s going to be a new name in town when it comes to supermarkets.

ACME Markets announced Tuesday it has entered into an agreement to acquire 76 A&P stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania under the A&P, Superfresh and Pathmark banners.

And among them are the A & P stores in Greenwich and Stamford. In Stamford, the store is located at 1201 High Ridge Rd. In Greenwich, the stores are located at 160 W. Putnam Ave. and in the Riverside neighborhood at 1261 E. Putnam Ave.

The offer is subject to legal and bankruptcy court approvals, following A&P’s Chapter 11 filing on July 19, including the potential for higher bids to be submitted and anti-trust approval, according to a statement from ACME, that was founded in 1891. A&P has asked the court for an order requiring other bidders to submit their bids by Sept. 11, with an expectation that court approval for the sale of the stores are received by Oct. 15, according to the statement.

ACME Markets, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AB Acquisition LLC (Albertsons Companies), operates 107 stores in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey.
