STAMFORD, CT — In an effort to support the city's Vision Zero initiative, the Stamford Police Department has launched an online form for residents to submit complaints regarding traffic safety.

The SPD posted a video to Facebook on Thursday featuring Lt. Kris Engstrand and Sgt. Jeffrey Boothe of the SPD's Traffic Enforcement Unit.

"We understand there are many issues in this city, and traffic safety is one of them," Engstrand said. "In fact, the mayor has even started a [Vision] Zero initiative plan for traffic safety and enforcement. And along those lines, we hope that this process of reporting complaints streamlines for the citizens of Stamford and allows us to support her initiative in a quicker and much more efficient fashion."

Boothe said the SPD Traffic Enforcement Unit issued approximately 3,000 tickets last year for various traffic violations around the city.

The online form allows residents to submit complaints or concerns about specific areas directly to the department.

"Streamlining this process will help us deploy our resources in a much more efficient way and assist with meeting the mayor's goals in the Vision Zero initiative to reduce traffic fatalities and collisions throughout the entire city," Boothe added.

Stamford's Vision Zero campaign, which began in 2022, has a goal of eliminating fatalities and severe injuries on Stamford's roadways by 2032.

Vision Zero was first implemented in Sweden in the 1990s, and it swept across Europe and is now a popular strategy in major American cities.
