Stamford Police Warn Of 'Sextortion' Scam Involving Google Maps
Police said they've received several reports about the scam in recent days.

STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Police Department is warning residents about a new type of sextortion scam which may include a Google Maps photo of the victim's house.
In a recent Facebook post, police said they've received several reports about the scam.
"The victim will receive an email from a hacker claiming they compromised the victim’s computer and used their webcam to record the victim watching pornography. They then try to extort the victim into sending Bitcoin or claim they will release the video to the victim’s contacts," police said. "The new twist to this is that the email may also contain a photo of the victim’s house from Google Maps. This is a scam and we recommend you never send the scammers any money."

Police also advised residents not to send compromosing images of themselves to anyone, no matter who they are or who they say they are.
"In addition, do not open any attachments from people you do not know," police said. "Also, turn off and cover any web cameras when you are not using them.
