STAMFORD, CT — Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to hit Connecticut on Tuesday and dump 2 to 4 inches of rain on southern Connecticut. In light of this, city officials ask Stamford residents to prepare for storm conditions, including high winds and rainfall.

Due to expected strong winds, residents are urged to secure or bring inside outdoor furniture, decorations and hanging plants. Officials also ask residents to anticipate "power and communications" outages. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

"In the event of a power outage, residents should only use generators outside their home and never in enclosed spaces such as garages, basements, or porches," city officials said in a statement. "Generators should be at least 20 feet from your home and away from doors, windows or air intake vents."

Residents should also anticipate "potential flooding" as a result of the storm. City officials urge residents to ensure in-home basement pumps are working properly and secure important documents and valuables by removing them from potential flood areas.

While the city regularly clears storm drains and basins, residents can check their local storm drains to ensure they are clear of debris, officials said. If a storm drain is not clear of debris, please report this to Fix It Stamford at www.stamfordct.gov/fixit or by calling 203-977-4140.

Residents should avoid driving through flooded roadways. The city's West Main Street Bridge will also be closed and residents are asked to avoid using the bridge during the storm.

"Stamford's Office of Public Safety and the Emergency Operations Center will continue to closely monitor the Tropical Storm Isaias and will adapt preparations or send out additional communications to the public as necessary," city officials said in a statement.
