Toward the very end of the interview, which was posted on YouTube by the Latino Foundation of Stamford, Figueroa said, translated to English, "The Hispanic vote is going to determine on Aug. 13 who will win to represent or who will continue to represent you. We cannot permit a person who is of Jewish origin, of Jewish origin, to represent our community. It’s impossible."
Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons and DCC leadership condemned Figueroa's comments.
Jacobson is a local attorney who has served on the Stamford Board of Reps. in District 12 since 2016. Figueroa won the 148th House District seat against Republican Olga D. Anastos in a special election in March 2023 following the resignation of Democrat Dan Fox.
The 148th district covers the East Side, Glenbrook and the Cove.
"The last few days have not been easy but, last night, 148th District voters sent a message loud and clear: hate has no place in Stamford," Jacobson posted Wednesday on Facebook. "Thanks to everyone who stepped up to make a difference in this important race. This result showed that residents are ready for a legislator who prioritizes their concerns with responsiveness and transparency top of mind."
State Representative, 146th Assembly District
Voters who live in Districts 1, 4 and 8 chose Democrat-endorsed candidate Eilish Collins Main over incumbent state Rep. David Michel for the 146th Assembly District, unofficial results show.
Collins Main totaled 548 votes to Michel's 435.
Michel, the founder and CEO of a nationwide designer eyewear sales and distribution firm, is in his third term in office. Collins Main has had a career in marketing and business development in the education technology sector, and has volunteered in Stamford.
The 146th District encompasses part of the downtown area, South End and Shippan.
"Thank you to the Democratic voters of the 146th District for the honor of being elected as the Democratic nominee! Across Downtown, Shippan, and the South End, residents in every neighborhood spoke up to say that it's time for new leadership to represent them in Hartford," Collins Main posted on Facebook Wednesday morning.
"It wasn’t an easy decision to run, but you have now indicated it was the right one. We must address the issues that matter to you, including affordability, quality of life, and education, and I pledge to do just that."
