Stamford Public Education Foundation’s (SPEF) will award the Spirit Award, along with $1,000, to the Stamford Public School with the most affiliated participants at 2nd Annual MarcUS for Change 5K.
It takes place rain or shine, on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. at Cove Island Park in Stamford. Funds raised will help provided mentoring services to students in Stamford’s elementary, middle and high schools. Celebrations will include entertainment, food and raffle prizes.
The MarcUS for Change 5K honors the memory of former Stamford football star Marcus Dixon McInerney. Funds raised will benefit SPEF’s nationally recognized mentoring program, which serves Stamford students in middle school and high school to provide academic and social support. Last year, the funds raised by the 5K helped provide mentoring services to 250 Stamford students for the 2013-2014 school year. The program will increase its support this year to serve 500 students, by expanding its services to support elementary school students.
