Stamford Public Education Foundation Receives $25K Grant

From Stamford Public Education Foundation: — Since 1996, the Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) has been a local non-profit organization serving thousands of students and their families.

The Fairfield County’s Community Foundation (FCCF) has awarded SPEF a $25,000 grant to
support its operating costs; ultimately, allowing the organization to continue to enrich the
community.

SPEF provides programs and resources that elevate student, educator and parent success. Grants
that support operating expenses, such as the one received from FCCF, help staff SPEF’s programs
and run its agency more effectively. Within 2017—2018, SPEF has achieved the following:

 Directly served 21 Stamford public schools
 Delivered Stamford Mentoring Program to 900 students
 Provided 16,000 hours of math tutoring for 90 ninth and tenth grade students
 Distributed 5,000+ new books
 Served 232 children and parents through Family Literacy Nights in Stamford’s south end
 Supported 102 students and 14 teams for the Odyssey of the Mind program (completed against 175 teams at the Connecticut State Tournament, with 4 teams advancing to the World Finals)

SPEF Director of Development and Communications Lynn Tusa noted, “This year, as SPEF begins delivering its programs to students in Stamford’s 21 public schools, we are reminded how fortunate we are to have committed community partners, such as FCCF. The support we receive from FCCF goes beyond the $25,000 they have granted us to operate our non-profit agency. They are also there to support our needs through offering professional development and providing guidance to help us achieve lasting change in our community.”
