Stamford Schools To Provide Free Meals To All Students
District officials said the CSDE approved their application to provide free breakfast and lunch to all SPS students for the rest of 2020.
STAMFORD, Ct — Stamford Public Schools announced this week the Connecticut State Department of Education has approved their application to provide free breakfast and lunch meals to all district students for the remainder of 2020, as federal funding for the program allows.
In an announcement, district officials said the approval is the result of the district's application to the CSDE for an extension of its Summer Food Service Program in an effort to "continue providing access to nutritious meals to children in need." "We are very pleased to be able to continue to offer all students access to meals free of charge, especially during this pandemic," Associate Superintendent for School Development Olympia Della Flora said in a statement. "Families are facing many additional challenges and helping them ensure their children have access to meals hopefully will be a huge relief during this time."
Families are still encouraged to apply online to qualify for free or reduced priced meals so they can continue to receive meals when the program expires, officials said.
