Stamford State Rep. Attends White House States Convening On Child Care

Overall, 91 legislators from around the country attended the event on Wednesday, including four from Connecticut.

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford state Rep. Corey Paris (D-145) visited Washington D.C. on Wednesday for the White House States Convening on Child Care event.

Paris joined 90 state legislators from 41 states across the country, including fellow CT Reps. Michelle Cook (D-Torrington), Mary Welander (D-Orange, Derby, Hamden, Woodbridge), and Kara Rochelle (D- Ansonia, Derby).

Also at the event was First Lady Dr. Jill Biden; New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham; New York Gov. Kathy Hochul; and Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan.

The legislators gathered to discuss childcare policy achievements from their respective legislative sessions. The group of lawmakers explored different legislative strategies to make childcare more affordable for working families, increase childcare provider supply, and improve job quality for childcare workers.

In the 2023 legislation session, the CT General Assembly passed a state budget, which promises to bring expanded childcare services by cutting business taxes. The budget also funds pay raises for licensed and unlicensed providers.
