Stamford Students Recognized In Regional Art, Writing Competition

Students from Stamford high schools were recognized for their submissions in the 2021 CT Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Competition.

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford Public Schools announced this week students from all three of the district's high schools were recently recognized for their outstanding submissions in the 2021 Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Competition.

Among the honorees is Stamford High School junior Ivana Nique, who was awarded two Gold Keys in ceramics, according to a news release. Gold Key works are automatically considered for national recognition. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

The following Academy of Information Technology & Engineering (AITE) students were recognized for their literary works in the 2021 Hudson-to-Housatonic Writing Region of the Scholastic Writing Awards, which is administered by Writopia Lab:

  • Daniel Mihok, AITE: Honorable Mention, Poetry (Teacher: Edward Donnelly)
  • Rodrigo Sierra Bettorazzi, AITE: Honorable Mention, Dramatic Script (Teacher: Edward Donnelly)

The following SHS and Westhill High School students were awarded for their artistic contributions in the Connecticut Regional Art Award, an affiliate of the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers:

  • Charlotte Long, WHS: Two Honorable Mentions, Photography (Teacher: Tamara Dilworth)
  • Iker Gonzalez, WHS: Honorable Mention, Painting (Teacher: Robin Konrad)

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the awards program.

Students across America submitted nearly 320,000 original works this year in 29 different categories of art and writing.

According to the organization, submissions are juried by luminaries in the visual and literary arts, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

Participating students are provided the opportunity for recognition, exhibition, publication and scholarships.
