Stamford School Walk Out: Protests Over Education Secretary DeVos
Hundreds of students took issue with her lack of experience with public education.
STAMFORD, CT — Hundreds of students in city schools walked out Thursday to protest the new Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.
One of the student organizers said students were protesting DeVos's lack of experience, according to the Stamford Advocate. She has never attended public school, sent a child through a public school system or worked in a public school.
They also protested her views on public education in general, which she has referred to as a "dead end."

DeVos faced one of the toughest confirmation hearings out of any of President Donald Trump's nominees. She is an avid proponent of charter schools, voucher schools and other alternatives to standard public education.
In her first visit to a public school she said teachers were waiting to be told what they have to do. The D.C. school that she visited responded back via its Twitter account with criticism.
