Stamford's Purdue Pharma Considering Bankruptcy, CEO Says: Report

The company is facing lawsuits over its alleged role in the opioid crisis.

STAMFORD, CT — The CEO of OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma says that filing for bankruptcy is an option for the company as it grapples with lawsuits about its alleged role in the opioid crisis, writes The Washington Post.

Craig Landau, the company's President and CEO, told the Post that while Purdue Pharma has not yet decided on a course of action, bankruptcy remains on the table. Such a filing would stop litigation against the company.

Purdue Pharma and other pharmaceutical companies are facing hundreds of lawsuits from state governments and others over the opioid crisis, which has contributed to thousands of deaths.
