State Places Stamford Charter School On Probation: Report
Stamford Academy Charter High School has about 150 students.

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford Academy Charter High School, the 14-year-old school on North Street, has been temporarily denied a three-year state renewal and instead given a one-year renewal as a probationary period to make improvements, reports the Stamford Advocate.
On any given day, more than 40 percent of the school's approximately 150 students are absent, according to the publication, and most of them are considered chronically absent. Students at the academy have largely dropped out of, or been dismissed from, other Stamford public schools.
Academy officials acknowledge that the institution has experienced some challenges - and that administrators are not satisfied with current performance - but they argued that they need more support and time to make improvements.
