State Rep. Anabel Figueroa Resigns From Stamford Board Of Reps: Report
State Rep. Anabel Figueroa has been a member of the Board of Representatives since 2001.

STAMFORD, CT — State Rep. Anabel Figueroa (D-148) has resigned from the Stamford Board of Representatives in District 8, according to News 12 CT.
Figueroa has been mired in controversy since comments she made in an interview with the Latino Foundation of Stamford came to light on Aug. 13, which was Primary Day across Connecticut.
In the video, which was posted to YouTube by the foundation on July 28, Figueroa said, translated to English, "The Hispanic vote is going to determine on Aug. 13 who will win to represent or who will continue to represent you. We cannot permit a person who is of Jewish origin, of Jewish origin, to represent our community. It’s impossible."

Figueroa lost her primary race to DCC-endorsed candidate and member of the Board of Representatives, Jonathan Jacobson.
Elected officials have condemned Figueroa's comments as antisemitic and they've demanded her to resign from her posts.

According to News 12 CT, Figueroa said she will continue to serve as a state representative until her term expires, and she will continue on as a District 8 member of the Stamford Democratic City Committee.
The Stamford DCC on Sunday reiterated its desire to see Figueroa step down, as well as District 4 member Eva Padilla. The night before the primary, Padilla published a post on her Facebook page in support of Figueroa. In the post, Padilla referred to Jacobson as "the Israeli lawyer."
The Stamford DCC also called on Board of Reps. President Jeff Curtis to resign.
In a story by the Stamford Advocate on Figueroa's resignation, Curtis said Board of Reps. leadership "chose optics over humanity to a fellow human" when they signed a letter demanding Figueroa's resignation.
"In this situation, Anabel Figueroa is not the aggrieved person; she repeated these antisemitic and divisive statements about Jonathan Jacobson in public interviews and while knocking on doors, and Jeff Curtis’s defense of her is inexcusable. His statements demonstrate a lack of judgment, understanding, and a failure of leadership at a time when the Stamford community has been deeply impacted and hurt by antisemitism," the Stamford DCC said Sunday in a post on their website.
"The City of Stamford deserves a Board President who will not waver and will stand up for what is right in difficult moments. His actions are unbecoming for an individual holding a leadership role on our city’s legislative body, and consequently, we call on Jeff Curtis to step down as President of the Board of Representatives."
