Students, Teachers At Stamford School Told To Quarantine

STAMFORD, CT — A cohort of second-grade students at Toquam Magnet Elementary School have been asked to quarantine for two weeks following a positive case of the coronavirus at the school, according to district officials.

District spokesperson Sharon Beadle confirmed Wednesday morning second-grade students in the school's "blue" group under the district's hybrid model were asked to quarantine, as were second-grade teachers "who teach in the hybrid." Any other staff or students who were identified as close contacts during the contact tracing process were also asked to quarantine, Beadle said. She was unable to provide an exact number of students and staff members asked to quarantine.

"As per our protocol, those students/staff who were determined to be a close contact were contacted directly by the administrator or the Department of Health," Beadle said in an email. "A follow-up letter from the DOH confirming the specifics is also sent to those families/individuals."

A general notification was also sent to families, either via voicemail or email, Beadle said.

According to the Stamford Advocate, the students were scheduled to attend class Tuesday and are part of a cohort that makes up about half of all second-graders attending the school. A district spokesperson said the decision to have so many quarantine was made due to the challenge of contact tracing with younger children.
