Stamford Economic Development Director Thomas Madden confirmed Thursday the store had recently shut down following the expiration of the store's lease. He also encouraged looking at the city's retail sector as a whole, and said he expected the 2020 census data to bring new retailers to Stamford.

"We have spoken with numerous national retailers about Stamford," Madden said in an email to Patch. "A majority of them did not realize the amount of development that has taken place here, and the number of new apartments and increase in population the city is seeing. The datasets are extrapolations of the 2010 census data. I expect with the 2020 census data, the city will see new interest from retailers here."
Talbots still operates a number of stores in Connecticut, including locations in Westport, Ridgefield, Orange and Clinton. A complete list of Connecticut stores can be found here.
The clothing chain joins a growing list of stores that have recently closed at the Stamford Town Center. One of the mall's original tenants, Brooks Brothers, closed in June after more than 38 years in business.
Recently, the Cheesecake Factory announced it will close its location at the mall's restaurant plaza on Tresser Boulevard. The company said the restaurant is scheduled to close Aug. 1 and all 104 employees will be laid off.
