STAMFORD, CT — A 17-year-old was arrested alongside two adults — all Stamford residents — after police say they discovered a loaded gun and drugs during a vehicle stop last week

Members of the Stamford Police Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad noticed the teen, who is well-known to police according to Assistant Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin, walking with another man who was later identified as Zyaire Corey, 23, in the area of Southwood Square around 6:30 p.m. on May 7.

The teen and Corey got into a vehicle, which was driven by a woman later identified as Janiya Gill, 19, Conklin said.

Officers went to conduct a motor vehicle stop, but Gill tried to drive away and struck a police vehicle, Conklin said. With the help of the SPD K9 unit and patrol officers, the three occupants were safely removed from the vehicle, police said.

A search of the vehicle found a silver/black .38 special Cobra Firearms revolver loaded with five .38 caliber rounds underneath the seat the teenager was in, police said.

The teen took ownership of the gun as well as four glass mason jars of marijuana totaling 89.5 grams, a digital scale and $730 in cash, police said.

In the back seat where Corey was seated, officers found 33 folds of fentanyl and 8.6 grams of crack cocaine.

The teen faces a litany of charges, including pistol without a permit; illegal transfer of a firearm; weapons in a motor vehicle; possession of marijuana; possession of marijuana with intent to sell; and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. He was remanded to Bridgeport Juvenile Detention center and appeared in court on May 8, according to police.

Corey was charged with possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, and interfering with police, police noted. He was issued a bond of $25,000 and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on May 21.

Gill was charged with reckless driving, failure to stop when signaled/disobeying direction of an officer, and interfering with police. Police said she was issued a $10,000 bond with a court date of May 21.

Conklin called the incident "troubling." An investigation is ongoing to determine how the teen came into possession of the gun.
