Villa Maria School Raises Funds For Bennett Cancer Center

The school raised money throughout October, and recently presented a check to Stamford Health and the Bennett Cancer Center.

STAMFORD, CT — It's the season of giving, and several local Stamford schools are doing their part to help out.

Most recently, Villa Maria School raised funds and presented a check to Stamford Health and the Carl & Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center.

For the past few years, the school has raised money during the month of October for breast cancer awareness.

This year, Villa Maria School sold pink face masks with the Villa Maria logo on them, as well as baked goods. Students also donated $1 if they wanted to dress down and wear pink one day in October.

Earlier this week, student council members presented a check for $428 to Gayle Alswanger, the Director of Development for the Bennett Cancer Center.

Every October, Stamford Health partners with the community to help raise awareness around breast cancer with the Paint The Town Pink initiative.

"Villa Maria has been a long-time supporter of our Paint the Town Pink initiative. Stamford Health is truly grateful to the students and staff for helping to raise awareness around breast cancer. The funds will support our breast services at Stamford Health," Alswanger told Patch.

Alswanger also pointed out the generosity of other schools in Stamford who have recently donated money:

  • Davenport Elementary School
  • Northeast Elementary School
  • Rippowam Middle School
  • Rogers Magnet School
  • Westover Magnet School
  • J.M. Wright Tech
  • Catholic Academy

"The outpouring of support from the Stamford Public Schools as well as several private schools in our area was truly remarkable," Alswanger said. "We are eternally grateful to every one of them for creating unique ways to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer."
