STAMFORD, CT—Michael Duffin, a Stamford Police Officer for over three decades, received a heartfelt retirement send-off on Wednesday from family and friends.
According to a video posted on Facebook, Duffin took his last call from dispatch in his squad car, with his daughter beside him in the passenger seat.
"On behalf of all of your colleagues here at the Stamford Police Department, we wish you a well deserved, safe and healthy retirement," the dispatch voice said on the other side of the radio. "After 35 years of service, we thank you for not only keeping the citizens of this city safe, but your brothers and sisters in blue. Although you will be missed, you made it, and it's now time to be with your family and not worry or stress about work. Stay safe always."

"After 35 years of serving and protecting the citizens of Stamford, CT my husband Officer Michael Duffin is officially retired. Brittany, Taylor, and I are so proud of you and appreciate all the years of hard work and dedication you gave to the city of Stamford," Duffin's wife, Nora, said in the caption on Facebook. "Michael you served the citizens of Stamford well and you will be missed. You were a caring, compassionate, understanding, and always fair officer and Stamford was lucky to have you protecting the streets for so many years. It’s your time now to sit back relax and enjoy life! Here’s to the next chapter in life! We love you. 'Code 7.'"
Nora said afterwards that she was extremely proud of her husband.
"I've been with him through the whole ride, even when he was in the Academy. I'm very proud of him. He was an outstanding officer, and not because he's my husband, but because he was. The City of Stamford was very lucky to have him," Nora said.
Duffin was drawn to law enforcement because it runs in the family. His father was a cop in Boston, Mass., and Duffin had several uncles and cousins on the force as well. Duffin, who was born and raised in the city, joined the Stamford Police Department in 1986.
"It feels good. I'm tired. I'm going to rest for a while," Duffin said on his first day of retirement, adding that he's looking forward to heading down south and relaxing on the beach.
Duffin spent almost his entire 35-year career as a patrol officer, and said the interactions with his colleagues and the community is what he'll miss the most.
"I'll miss the people," he said. "I always liked to be out there and see people and interact with them."
