Woman Accused Of Trying To Buy $80K Car With Fake ID: Stamford Police
Police said they arrested a 34-year-old woman in Stamford on April 7.

STAMFORD, CT — A New York City woman is accused of trying to purchase an $80,000 car in Stamford with a fake ID, according to police.
Victoria Mendez, 34, was arrested last Friday and charged with criminal attempt at identity theft, criminal attempt at first-degree larceny, first-degree forgery and interfering, Asst. Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin said, noting that Mendez faces similar charges in multiple states.
On April 7, Mendez went into the Ford dealership on Magee Avenue and presented herself as a doctor from Mississippi using a fake ID, and tried to purchase an $80,000 Ford.

"The staff while speaking to her grew suspicious about some of the statements she made and felt she was using stolen identification purporting to be somebody else," Conklin said.
Employees did some research and found that the woman was, indeed, pretending to be a different person, Conklin said. Police responded and arrested Mendez, who was still at the dealership around 7 p.m.
