STAMFORD, CT — A woman has been charged in connection with the April overdose death of a Stamford resident, according to police.

Ikea Grace, 31, of Waterbury, was arrested on Aug. 24 and charged with second-degree manslaughter.

Police apprehended Grace in Milford after her car was flagged by a license plate reader, Stamford police said in a news release. She was taken to Stamford where she was processed and held on a $200,000 court-set bond.

On April 5, officers were called to an apartment in the 70 block of Victory Street in Stamford on a report of an unresponsive 34-year-old woman who was found by her young children in a bedroom chair, police said, noting that Grace was also at the apartment. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers found evidence of illicit drug use in the apartment, including what appeared to be percocet pills, which were later confirmed to be fentanyl, police said.

"In an interview with Grace, she revealed that she had met the victim a few days prior through a dating app and had supplied the pills, believing they may have been fentanyl rather than percocet. Grace refused to disclose the source of the pills," police said.

Following forensic testing, detectives secured an arrest warrant for Grace.

"The Stamford Police Department remains committed to its mission of arresting individuals responsible for the sale and delivery of the deadly drug fentanyl within our community," police said. "The Stamford Police Department extends its gratitude to the Milford Police Department for their assistance and commends Detective Califano for his diligent work in bringing this tragic case to a successful conclusion."
