Community Update

John Sposato Sr., 90, of Pond Street, Westerly, passed away on Saturday morning, October 26, 2013 at the Westerly Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Rolande S. (Picard) Sposato of Westerly, his daughter, Eugenie M. Sposato of Ashaway, th...ree grandchildren, Alexander, Carl and Krystin, a great-grandson, Michael, and his sisters, Felice, Sue and Irene. John was pre-deceased by his son, John Sposato Jr., his brother Carl, and his sisters, Josephine, Minnie, Julia, Angeline and Marion.

John was born in Westerly on October 19, 1923, the son of the late Santo and Christina (Meringolo) Sposato. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Seaman Second Class, earning the World War II Victory and the Asiatic Pacific Medals while on board the U.S.S. Indiana. After military life, John became the owner/operator of the Hercules Paving Company of Westerly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High Street, Westerly. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will take place at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services are under the direction of Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home & Crematory, 64 Friendship Street, Westerly.
