19th Annual Relay For Life is back at Westerly High School

The American Cancer Society's Greater Westerly Relay for Life will take place Friday, June 3rd 2016 – Lets Get Planning!

WESTERLY, R.I. (October 21, 2015): The Relay For Life of Greater Westerly will host a Volunteer Welcoming Celebration on Wednesday, November 4, 2016 at 6pm to 8pm at Grey Sail Brewery at 63 Canal Street, Westerly RI 02891.

The Volunteer Welcoming Celebration is open to everyone who would like to learn more about how to get involved in making 2016’s Relay for Life a big success. The celebration serves to help build a strong planning committee to organize this year’s pre-relay events, team recruitment, fundraising, corporate sponsorships, and the Relay itself. Light refreshments will be served and Grey Sail Brewery’s excellent beer will be on tap. This year’s Relay for Life is chaired by Andrew Rogers and Jeremy Russell both of whom have a long history in organizing and fundraising for this very important cause.

“We are so excited to start another year of fun and fundraising for the American Cancer Society. For our 19th year we are bringing the Relay back to the Westerly High School and using our traditional Relay format, with the celebration beginning early Friday evening lasting into Saturday morning, raising money with each lap. We are so appreciative to the Westerly Public Schools for inviting us back for 2016 and very grateful to the Stonington Public Schools for supporting the Relay so well in 2014 & 2015.”, said Andrew Rogers.

The 2014 & 2015 Relays were held at the Stonington High School while Westerly High School was making improvements to their facilities. “The American Cancer Society does such important work supporting individuals and families that are struggling with the difficulties of a cancer diagnosis. I am thrilled to have the Relay for Life back in Westerly. The School Committee and I are pleased that we are able to offer a wonderful space in the high school quad that will support Relay participants and offer them a pleasant tree lined walking venue. We wish the event all success.”, said Roy Seitsinger, Superintendent of Westerly Schools.

American Cancer Society: Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s national signature event and is as much an awareness-raiser as it is a fundraiser. This family-oriented team event brings participants from all parts of the community together in a “celebration of life.” Businesses, civic clubs, religious groups, friends, and families take turns walking in relay fashion while they also celebrate the critical role the American Cancer Society plays in the fight against cancer.

Thousands of local residents have attended the event throughout the past seventeen years. Nearly $3 million has been raised for the American Cancer Society’s research and patient services.
