2 Elderly Pedestrians Struck, Killed; Driver Charged With DUI: PD

The accident occurred Saturday night in Stonington.

STONINGTON, CT — Two elderly people were killed after a Groton woman, who police say was under the influence at the time of the accident, struck them around 8 p.m. Saturday, according to NBC Connecticut.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Route 27 and Rossie Pentway. The two pedestrians, an 88-year-old man and a 78-year-old woman, were struck and killed by a car driven by Carol M. Belli, 73, of Groton, police told NBC Connecticut.

Both pedestrians were taken to a hospital where they died as a result of their injuries. The victims names have not been released. Belli is charged with DUI and was released on a $600 bond. The accident remains under investigation.
