Victims Identified In Horrific Double Fatal Wrong-Way I-95 Crash

Two people were killed and three others sustained serious injuries in the wrong-way crash on I-95 in Stonington.

STONINGTON, CT — A Massachusetts woman and an Arizona man were killed in a horrific wrong-way accident on Interstate 95 between exits 91 and 92 at 12:46 a.m., State Police said Sunday afternoon.

Eric Ramakers, 27, of Phoenix, Arizona and Lorna Valcin, 26, of Braintree, Mass. were killed in the accident, which left three people with serious injuries.

State Police say Jose Gonzalez, 38, of South Road in Groton was driving a 2015 Lexus on I-95 northbound in the southbound lane in Stonington. As Gonzalez traveled north, the wrong direction on I-95 Southbound, his vehicle collided with a 2011 Toyota Prius just north of exit 91 in Stonington, State Police said.

The Prius was driven by Stephane Francois, 26, of Brockton, Mass. The front seat passenger in Gonzalez's vehicle, Ramakers, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, State Police said.

The front seat passenger in Francois' vehicle, Valcin, died as a result of the crash, State Police said. Gonzalez and Francois were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

The rear seat passenger in Francois' vehicle, Jerome Aullychard, 26, of Elmont, New York was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening serious injuries, State Police said.

I-95 was closed until 6:30 a.m. The accident remains under investigation and any witnesses are asked to call Troop E at 860.848.6500.
