Air Quality Alert Due To Wildfire Smoke Issued In Stonington

The town is alerting residents as smoke from the Quebec and Ontario wildfires is filtering into Connecticut.

STONINGTON, CT — The following alert for Stonington was issued by Deputy Chief of Police Todd Olson:

"Near ground level smoke is expected to arrive in Connecticut and continue into Tuesday afternoon. The smoke is a result of wildfires burning in the Quebec and Ontario provinces of Canada.

"The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has issued an Air Quality Action Day for fine particulates until midnight tomorrow night (00:00-23:59). An Air Quality Action Day means that fine particulate concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards."
