All You Need to Know About the Nov. 1 Stonington Village Farmers' Market

There is a new time and new vendors, so read on for the latest!

To find out what’s going on at the market tomorrow, here’s our newsletter post (to receive this weekly, email jroboston@gmail.com):

Tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 1, is our first indoor market day at the Velvet Mill, 22 Bayview Avenue. Please remember the time change: we’re open at 10:00 AM and close up at 1:00 PM. The parking lot is off Bayview Ave., and there’s also extra space in the parking area that wraps along the pond and borders Meadow Avenue.

We are very excited to introduce both new and returning vendors. Mark and Laura Pailthorpe of Falls Creek Farm are new to our market this season, and we’re so happy they are bringing us fresh greens all winter. This Saturday, they have four varieties of kale, green and red Pac Choi, bunches of herbs, the last of their Brussels sprouts, and several varieties of potatoes. Also new to the market is Stonington Beef, offering many choices of cuts for hearty meals. And we welcome Stonington Vineyards with their award winning wines using local grapes.

Beaver Brook Farm is back, the largest sheep farm in Connecticut, with lamb, butterflied chickens, sheep milk cheeses, and prepared dishes such as lamb stew. Iris Creek Farm is also here with grass-fed lamb sausage, hand spun yarn and lamb pelts. Sounds cozy!

Of course, our yearly vendors have everyone’s favorites: Stonyledge Farm’s pasture-raised chickens and meats along with eggs, vegetables, preserved goods and hand-made body-care products; Aiki-Farm’s vibrant sprouts and lettuce; Maggie’s Farm’s mushrooms; 18th Century Farm’s turnips, twelve variety of apples, and heirloom dry beans; Davis Farm’s corn meal and veggies; plus breads, cheeses, and much more.

Pull up a chair and treat yourself to a prepared breakfast or lunch with foods from around the market. Summer Hill Catering is serving the Borough Bacon Wrap -- eggs from Davis Farm with bacon, spinach, and Brie cheese. Their soups are Mulligatawny, Beef and Bean Chili, and Vegetarian Potato-Leek, all served with bread from Two Dogs Baking or cornbread made from Davis Farm’s cornmeal. While there, place your order for Thanksgiving fruit pies. For gluten-fee and vegan options, sit down with a warm bowl of Shana B’s butternut squash black bean bisque and freshly baked pumpkin raisin scones; or bring home a sweet potato curry pot pie.

We’ve got the family in mind. Kids, please bring your folks or caretakers over to the COMO table where, for no charge, you can make bubble art. Blowing bubbles and watercolor: way cool!!

It’s creeping close to holiday season, and our craft venders have one-of-a-kind beauties. Check out Tori Divina Jewelry, Asucena Colon Photography, and Jude Larzelere hand-dyed silks.
And, last but not least, AJ Hocking and friends will liven the morning with their festive music. Please tip them for their generosity. We look forward to your company this Saturday.

Cheers!
