North Stonington Firefighters Battle Structure Fire Before Responding To Serious Crash

NORTH STONINGTON, CT — Firefighters and emergency crews responded to three major incidents in North Stonington within several hours, including a structure fire and a rollover crash that left one person seriously injured.

The North Stonington Volunteer Fire Companywas called to a reported structure fire in the area of Wyassup and Murphy roads at 8:05 p.m. Saturday.

The first North Stonington fire officer arrived four minutes later and found the structure fully engulfed in flames. Residents confirmed that no one was inside.

Firefighters from several surrounding departments joined the response. Four hoses were used to fight the fire, and by 8:37 p.m., most of the flames had been extinguished. Part of the structure collapsed during the fire.

Crews remained at the scene for an extended period to extinguish remaining hot spots. Twenty North Stonington volunteers and one paid staff member responded to the fire.

While crews were still at the scene, emergency responders were dispatched to a cardiac arrest. Crews responded directly from the fire scene handled the call.

Then, at 10:57 p.m., emergency crews were called to a rollover crash with serious injuries at Main Street and Norwich-Westerly Road/Route 2.

Responders found a vehicle on its side and a person trapped inside with serious injuries. A tourniquet was applied before the person was freed from the vehicle.

Two people were taken to local hospitals. Three ambulances responded to the crash.

The fire company thanked the departments that provided assistance during the series of emergencies.
