Stonington High students enrolled in the Ecommerce & Entrepreneurship class competed at the Connecticut Student Innovation Expo at the Hartford Convention Center on Saturday, May 21st. Distinguished guests included Naveen Selvadurai, co-founder of the location-based social network Foursquare, and Governor Dannel Malloy.
Ecommerce & Entrepreneurship is a full-year business course where students work together to develop an innovative for-profit or not-for-profit e-business. This years’ challenge was Moving Forward, Giving Back. Students were responsible for writing a business plan, building a website, designing an expo booth, and delivering a three-minute elevator pitch for their e-business. All of these components were put on display at the expo.
Stonington competed against eight other schools throughout Connecticut. Stonington students Mikaela Gillick, Devin Keehner, Caitlin Ferguson, Faye Zelepos, Chris Blanco, Jennie Poirier, Jacob Steinhoff, and Claire Chambers created Stonington Sustainability, a company “that provides the newest and most environmentally friendly energy saving tips, free of charge, to Southeastern Connecticut and Southern Rhode Island communities” (www.stoningtonsustainability.com).
