Beluga Whales in Captivity Protest Taking Place at Mystic Aquarium

A protest is planned to take place at the Mystic Aquarium this weekend to "bring awareness to the plight of captive whales and dolphins."

STONINGTON, CT - A protest is planned to take place Saturday at Mystic Aquarium, the New London Day reported. Those taking part are hoping to “bring awareness to the plight of captive whales and dolphins.”

The protest will be taking place in honor of the worldwide 5th Annual Empty The Tanks event, according to the New London Day. Mystic Aquarium is not alone, as protesters are scheduled to gather at 60 locations in 20 countries for the event Saturday. This marks the third year protesters will be at the Mystic Aquarium, the New London Day reported. The aquarium has beluga whales in its collection, and also does extensive research on belugas in the wild.
