Buildings Evacuated After Gas Leak In Pawcatuck: Report

Police said two buildings in Pawcatuck were evacuated after a gas line was accidentally struck.

STONINGTON, CT — Police said two buildings in Pawcatuck were evacuated Monday after a gas line was accidentally struck, the Westerly Sun reported. The buildings were located along West Broad Street, and a section of Lincoln Avenue was also closed.

The incident occurred after workers accidentally struck a gas line while performing renovations at 101 W. Broad Street, according to the Westerly Sun. Workers reported the incident around noon, and a strong smell of gas was still present in the area at 12:30 p.m.

Police said no injuries or illnesses were reported as a result of the incident, and those who had evacuated their buildings were expected to be allowed back in later that day, the Westerly Sun reported.
