Today is the last day to submit your work to the 2026 LOVE&nbsp;Where You Read Poster Contest where we are highlighting America 250: Freedom to Read. Artists ages 15 &amp; up are encouraged to create inspiring, original designs that celebrate both the nation's 250th anniversary and the library as a place of opportunity, curiosity, and freedom. Designs must be two-dimensional and no larger than 11.5"x17.5". Submissions will be accepted starting September 1 through September 25. The winner and artists selected for the exhibit will be contacted by September 30. Winner will receive $250! No entry fee required. LAST DAY TO SUBMIT to the LOVE Where You Read Poster Contest

Praying With a Brush is a one-day workshop for iconographers interested in learning the basic brush skills necessary to paint an icon. You will start with a repertoire of basic calligraphic brush strokes and practice exercises using only ink and a brush. Using traditional, art historical Orthodox icons as models, you will be taught to make your own drawings. After placing an acetate transparency over the model, you will rediscover, line by line, the icon’s inner geometry, balance, order, and structure.
You will continue onto the more painterly process of modeling soft passages of tone using a dry brush technique. Using the instructor’s prepared models and exercises, you will practice creating the icon’s characteristic inner glow, building a ramp from dark to light with many transparent layers, finally reaching a bright opacity.
As you work, you will pray in a familiar way to the holy person represented in the icon. With each brush stroke, you will repeat the prayer “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.” Based on the prayer of the repentant publican in Luke 18:9, this practice is a cornerstone of Eastern Orthodox piety. While writing an icon, it quiets your mind and focuses your hand, and can be used as a way to pray without ceasing outside of icon painting.
This workshop can be taken on its own, or as preparation for the Essentials of Iconography workshop. It is applicable to all schools of icon painting, in all mediums.
You are welcome to start your day with Mass at 9 AM. Check in and coffee with be at 10 AM in the Sacred Art Studio.
Lunch served in the dining of the Enders House, an early 20th century arts and crafts style mansion and the oldest structure on the island.
The day will conclude at approximately 6 PM.

For more than 25 years, Jeff Belanger has been exploring the unexplained. He’s one of the world’s foremost storytellers and researchers of lore and legends.
He’s the award-winning, Emmy-nominated host, writer, and producer of the New England Legends series on PBS and Amazon Prime and is the author of over a dozen books. He also hosts the popular New England Legends weekly podcast, which has garnered more than 6 million downloads.
Drawing from hundreds of strange tales Belanger has chronicled over the years, this program promises to be a night you won’t forget!
This program is a 21+ pay-as-you-wish event with a suggested donation of $15 featuring cider from Tapped Apple Cidery &amp; Winery and a book sale and signing by the author. Make it festive and come in costume!

Join us at The First Congregational Church of Stonington, The Road Church, for our Famous Chowder Luncheon on Saturday, October 3, 2026, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Gather with friends, family, and neighbors for a delicious homemade fall meal while supporting two important local organizations, Operation Fresh Start and Riverfront Children’s Center. All proceeds from the luncheon will benefit these organizations.

For just $20, enjoy: – A bowl of your choice of New England or Rhode Island clam chowder – Autumn chopped salad – Mary’s Famous Carrot Cake
À la carte options and takeout will also be available. Hot dogs will be available for those who prefer them. Take home some of our famous chowder with a 24 oz. takeout portion for $15.

Deans Mill Farm 

Built in the mid-1700s as a functioning livestock farm, Deans Mill Farm has gone through an evolution in recent decades. A full renovation of the historic buildings and rejuvenation of the surrounding 70+ acres has made the property into the incredible venue it is today. Deans Mill Farm now operates primarily as a private event space and five-room bed and breakfast tucked down a private road in Stonington, Connecticut.
