Police said two suspects in a car theft are also accused of knocking a store owner to the ground with an SUV after stealing a chainsaw.

STONINGTON, CT — Police said two suspects in a Memorial Day car theft incident are also accused of knocking a store owner to the ground with an SUV after stealing a chainsaw, the New London Day reported.
According to the Day, police said Jonathan R. Ilarraza, 26, of North Kingstown, R.I., and Jan Poirier, 24, entered a store in Hopkinton, R.I., on May 26, and left with a $1,900 chainsaw. Police said the owner tried to stop the suspects by opening the driver's side door, which struck the man and knocked him to the ground.
The Day previously reported the suspects were arrested Monday after Ilarraza crashed a stolen car while attempting to drive away from an off-duty officer. Police said the off-duty officer fired a gun at the vehicle as the suspects fled.
