Charlotte the Mystic Sea Turtle Happily Swimming

Charlotte the sea turtle has had quite the adventure. She was struck by a boat propeller in Georgia, stranded, then rescued, rehabilitated and transported to Mystic Aquarium, her new home.

And then, there’s the bubble butt.

Charlotte suffered partial paralysis of her lower digestive tract and hind flippers after the accident. That causes her to float with her rear end up, a condition known as ‘bubble butt.’

To help her swim and maintain good posture, Charlotte’s caretakers and the veterinary team at the aquarium had custom pouches made for her that stabilize her swimming.
