Cops: Man, 71, Raped Intellectually-Disabled Person
Leonard J. Campion of North Haven allegedly sexually assaulted a person he was hired to help care for, and who couldn't consent.

BRANFORD, CT —Leonard J. Campion, 71, was arrested and charged by Branford Police with forcibly raping a person with an intellectual disability.
Campion, of 199 Quinnipiac Ave. in North Haven, is facing one count of first-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree sexual assault.
The law defines the specific charges as when a person uses force or threats of force, to sexually assault someone who, because of an intellectual disability, is incapable of consent.

Branford Police Deputy Chief John Alves, after a request by Patch, provided limited information about the case, and in an effort to protect the victim, the case files may be sealed.
Campion was arrested by warrant on Nov. 4. He was charged based on a "lengthy investigation into the alleged sexual contact Campion had with an individual suffering from an intellectual disability that Campion was employed to manage."

Campion posted a court set $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court Nov. 12.
