CT State Rep. Scott Hoists Flag High Over Mystic

State Rep. John Scott, assisted by John Kennedy and Rich Dussault of the Mystic Flag Committee, raised the Connecticut State flag.

On a beautiful late-summer day punctuated by a steady breeze that brought flags across Southeastern Connecticut to life, State Representative John Scott (R-40), assisted by John Kennedy and Rich Dussault of the Mystic Flag Committee, gently unclipped the rope, attached a Connecticut State flag and hauled it skyward on downtown Mystic’s historic Liberty Pole.

“The Mystic Flag Committee volunteers do an amazing job keeping the Stars and Stripes and other flags flying over downtown and when I learned they needed to replace the flags a few times a year I contacted Mr. Kennedy and offered to donate two State of Connecticut flags,” Rep. Scott said. “I was honored John and Rich asked me to actually raise one of the flags high above my hometown.”

Mystic Flag Committee President John Kennedy and Flag Captain Rich Dussault gladly accepted Rep. Scott’s donation of two Connecticut State flags for the recognizable landmark centerpiece of downtown.

Mr. Kennedy said weather takes its toll on the flags and replacements are needed a few times a year depending on factors such as how long each flag flies, the weather conditions and even the size and material. In addition to the Liberty Pole, the Mystic Flag Committee maintains and places flags throughout town, including 117 American Flags posted on streets during certain holidays, Kennedy said.
