STONINGTON, CT — A cyclist was struck and killed Monday night in Stonington, according to police. Police responded at 10:44 p.m. to the accident in the area of 210 S. Broad St. in Pawcatuck.

Gary Piver, 69, of Stonington, died in the crash. He would have turned 70 Tuesday.

Officers arrived and discovered that Piver had been hit by a vehicle traveling west on South Broad Street, and the suspect vehicle had left the scene. The suspect vehicle was described as a dark grey Toyota SUV.

Westerly Ambulance transported Piver to Westerly Hospital where he was pronounced dead. South Broad Street (Route 1) was closed for several hours as the Regional Accident Reconstruction Team and Stonington Police Detectives investigate.
