Details Released On LEGO Summer Events At Mystic Seaport Museum

The museum is planning a series of family-friendly events tied to its exhibition, "Brickwrecks: Sunken Ships in LEGO Bricks."

MYSTIC, CT — Mystic Seaport Museum is offering a series of events this summer tied to its current exhibition, "Brickwrecks: Sunken Ships in LEGO Bricks."

The exhibition, on display in the museum's Stillman Building, focuses on shipwrecks, maritime archaeology and environmental topics through LEGO brick models and interactive activities. Visitors can try a remotely operated vehicle simulator, test ship stability, learn about underwater archaeology and participate in building activities.

The museum has scheduled several events to accompany the exhibit.

On June 21, the museum will host a screening of A LEGO Brickumentary from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Meeting House. The documentary examines the cultural impact of LEGO bricks. Seating is limited and registration is not required.

A daylong event called Bricks Ahoy! is planned for July 11. Activities include LEGO building projects, hidden minifigure hunts, visits with Newfoundland dogs and access to the Brickwrecks exhibit. The day will conclude with a live improv performance and an outdoor screening of The LEGO Movie on the Village Green at sundown.

The museum also will celebrate the birthday of the Charles W. Morgan, the world's last wooden whaleship, on July 18. Activities are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include a LEGO mosaic project with ConnLUG, Brick Bingo, toy boat building, birthday card making and other family activities. The event will conclude with birthday cake.

In addition, visitors can participate in Daily Brick Bingo throughout the exhibition's run. Guests can pick up bingo cards at the museum entrance and search the Seaport Village for hidden LEGO minifigures.

According to the museum, admission to the exhibition and related events is included with general admission and is free for museum members.
