EARTH DAY OPEN HOUSE

Join us for our Earth Day Open House!  We know the weather forecast isn't perfect, but some rain is just what Mother Earth needs right now.  We're hosting an Open House from noon to 3pm.  All are welcome to come meet our staff, tour our waterfront facilities, and check out cool boats at the dock. We'll have lots of fun activities and crafts for kids geared toward enhancing awareness of our greatest resource, Fishers Island Sound, with its diverse marine ecosystems, and how we all can help protect it.  Come explore creatures in our touch tank, get your face painted, identify plankton with a microscope, try the windsurfing simulator, and "hike out" like an Opti sailor (on land, of course)!

The plan is to have plenty of watercraft on hand at the dock - from working fishing vessels to official patrol and rescue boats.  Visitors can see the progress of renovations to our main building, which include a new marine science lab and classroom. Everyone is welcome to explore and ask questions. "There has been a lot of hard work here this winter in an effort to continue to broaden our own understanding of how we can serve the community," said NESS President Spike Lobdell. "We're extremely fortunate in having a team of professionals who seem to thrive on each other's diverse experience set...the collaborative energy right now is tremendous!"
