Education Event: Weather Webinar

The SHYC Education Committee has arranged for Bill Biewenga to give a follow-on lecture to the highly acclaimed weather forecasting presentation that he gave at the club in February.

Come gather in the Harbor Room to watch a recording of a webinar that Bill gave in March.  Bill will be in the audience with us, he will answer questions during breaks, and at the end of the 3-hour session, he will do a case study.  Everyone who registers and attends the event will also be given unlimited, online access to the recorded event for one month following this session, so that he/she can go back and review sections of the lecture at their leisure from their homes.

The goal of this session is to help attendees better understand the kind of weather they can expect as an outcome of reading a weather map, trying to decipher a satellite image, or determining the effects of a sea breeze.  This tape, 3-hour session will present world-renowned speakers discussing the weather features you will see at sea and how to interpret various weather forecasting products. Guest speakers will include Ken Campbell from Commanders' Weather and Joe Sienkiewicz from NOAA's Ocean Prediction Center. Together, they will help attendees to make sense of the weather and better understand what to expect from it.

At the end, an interactive case study will be done using real examples of weather maps and forecasting data to create boat-specific forecasts. This will include a discussion on how to develop a weather strategy based on predicted conditions.
