FATHER'S DAY 2014

FATHER’S DAY 2014

What does Father’s Day mean? One day per year is set aside to honor your father. In today’s society this could be, your biological father, your step-father, your foster father, or adopted father, your grandfather, or the one who has cared for you for most of your life, and you call him Daddy.

Whoever you call father or daddy, today we celebrate that man’s devotion to you. Some of us are very fortunate to have our fathers still here on this earth and we can celebrate his being with a great dinner; a special day for him to do whatever he wants, or a special day planned by his children especially for him. By the way, we can’t ignore grandfathers. They have to be included too.

Father’s Day, like Mother’s Day, has become another extremely commercial day. Everywhere you turn, there is an ad telling you to buy this or that for your father. Father’s Day cards can be special, stuffed into a favorite drawer to be viewed again and again and he will remember that you gave him something special.

I hope all of you Dads out there are being honored by your children on this designated day for you. Even if it’s just a telephone call to say they love you. Too many of us are too busy to stop and say hello.

My Dad passed away in 1997. We had a good relationship, we respected and loved each other. I only had one Dad, and he treated me very well, I really miss the chance to call him seek advice and his opinions. “Dad, you can’t celebrate a Happy Father’s day, but, know in my heart you will always be number one.”

My son passed away in 1994. His son was born 6 months later. He didn’t get a chance to be a Dad, I am sure he would have been a wonderful Dad. Now he is known as his son’s biological father, or Daddy Todd. So sorry you missed the experience of watching and helping your son grow.

If your dad isn’t among the living, talk to him anyway, chances are he will hear you.

Whoever you call “Daddy”, celebrate the day with him; make him feel special, because he really is special. Tell him he is loved, show him you care.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
