FEMA Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Comes To Stonington This Weekend

The regional DRCs Stonington Friday, November 9 to Sunday November 11.

FEMA will operate mobile Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in Stonington and Milford over the next few days to assist homeowners and businesses affected by Storm Sandy.

“Registering with FEMA and making your way to one of these centers can be the first step to getting life back to normal for many of our residents,” Governor Malloy said. “FEMA has already allocated more than $1 million to residents. I want to urge any individuals or businesses who have suffered losses or damages as a result of Storm Sandy to visit a center and work with the staff there to review the benefits they are entitled to.”

The Governor also announced that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano approved additional federal assistance to further enhance and expedite debris removal following Storm Sandy.

This additional assistance allows for the reimbursement of straight or regular time salaries and benefits for the employees of municipal and state government who performed disaster-related debris and wreckage removal work for any major disaster or emergency declared by the President on or after October 27, 2012, in response to Hurricane Sandy for up to 30 days. Usually, DHS declarations like this would only cover overtime, not straight time, for these employees.

“As we continue the recovery effort, I am very appreciative of Secretary Napolitano’s commitment to the State of Connecticut and its residents,” said Governor Malloy. “As we continue to work to get the state back to normal following this devastating storm, this additional assistance will help our recovery efforts.”
