So I got to sit in on 2 classes tonight… Thank you all for the privilege
The first was Miss Tiffany Cheng teaching grade 3. It was kind of sweet, getting to sit in my old classroom where i took my first class and taught my own little blueberries. The kids were all dressed in their classroom best; hair tight in tiny buns with lights in their eyes. The air was full of life… a silliness even. The girls were very excited and smiley (i saw a few missing teeth) taking great care as they watched and imitated Tiffany’s every move. They did barre stretches and a couple warm ups which they circled up for, and some center adage work. My favorite was watching the jaws hit the floor, when they said they did 10 sit ups last year, and she informed them “matter-o-factly” that they would be doing 20 this year! However it was obvious they were no strangers to challenge. They huffed and partnered up and did every single sit up, without hesitancy. It is quite amazing to me what our bodies and minds are capable of when put to the test. Do we really know what we are capable of, unless it is asked of us?
The second Class, grade 6 classical ballet, was taught by William Herrera. There was defiantly an atmosphere change Poise was the word. 11 faces silently locked onto William as they repeated every tondue and glissade. It was impressive to see the discipline and focus in this group. What I loved about this instructor was his desire to get the girls to “dance”. With such intense focus and attention to technique, our passion and light can sometimes get lost among the port de bras and plies. But I believe that William will not let that happen this year This was a beautiful group with some amazing potential, and I look forward to getting to watch these flowers bloom. It really challenged me today and brought a smile to my face to remember, even in my own life to not let the passion and light get lost, in my every day structure.
