Fundraising Card Tournament, Nov. 2nd at 6pm

There will be a Set-Back/Pitch Tournament on Saturday, November 2nd, at Great Neck Country Club in Waterford, to benefit the children of Nicaragua, sponsored by the Friends of Kilambe, a local non-profit organization dedicated to bringing medical help and clean water to impoverished families in Nicaragua.

Since its inception in 2007, the Friends of Kilambe has raised over $70,000, and has built a new clinic powered by hydroelectricity as well as a new school. Because clean water is critical to good health, they have begun a program of bringing inexpensive, American-made water purification systems to as many homes as possible. For a cost of less than $50 per household, families gain easy-to-clean water filters that remove bacteria and larvae, transforming water into a source of life rather than the common cause of disease. The organization’s efforts are practical and change lives for the better.

Nicaragua is located in Central America and is the second-poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Half of its six million residents are poor. Kilambe is a small, impoverished region in the mountains of north-central Nicaragua. It consists of seven communities and about 10,000 people.

The Card Tournament is the latest fund-raising effort by the small, local group, who wanted to have a fun event to increase awareness of their activities focused on helping the children and their families of this poor country.

The Tournament begins at 6pm with cocktails, registration and lessons on how to play. Included in the event will be 8 rounds of cards, game prizes, a silent auction, food and beverages, at a cost of $35 per person.
