
Tuesday,
November 5, from 6-7:45 p.m., a genealogy workshop sponsored by The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, "How to Get Started and Build a Family
Tree", will be held at Westerly Library.
This
workshop will provide instruction on how to set up your family tree with the
aid of a free program available on the Internet, as well as on forms that will
be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring that shoe box full of papers
and documents that’s been sitting in the closet. The shoebox might contain
birth and death certificates, photographs, family bibles, obituaries, etc.

Instructions
on the correct and consistent way to fill out genealogical charts, as well as
how to cite sources, will be provided.

Participants
will examine census records from the years 1850-1930, which reveal valuable
information. There will be discussion about on-line resources: which ones are free,
and which ones are not, where to find vital records, probate records, passenger
lists, and naturalization papers, among other things.
Programs at the library are free, open to the
public, and handicapped accessible.
