Grocery Store, Coffee Shop, Massive Residential Development Pitched For Stonington

A proposal would add a location of a national discount grocer, a coffee chain, and hundreds of apartments.

STONINGTON, CT — A new mixed-use plaza with an Aldi and a Starbucks could be on the way in Stonington.

A listing on Breslin Realty shows the 68-acre property off exit 92 on I-95 at its intersection with Route 2 and advertises land for lease and sale with a proposed Aldi and Starbucks.

The listing notes there are 63,000 vehicles that pass by the property each day, which is nearby to a Stop & Shop, McDonald's, Tractor Supply Co., and other businesses.

The development would also include hundreds of apartments, 64 townhomes, retail spaces, medical buildings, and more, according to The Connecticut Scoop.

Breslin Realty and the Stonington Planning Department did not return a reporter's requests seeking comment.

Aldi is a German discount grocery store that currently lists 33 locations in Connecticut, with a nearby store in Groton.

In other development news, the former Regal Cinemas in Pawcatuck is being demolished to make way for another mixed-use project. Construction is expected to begin on a $70-to-$80 million project at 465 Liberty St.
